Divinity Original Sin 2 was my “surprise” game of 2017. I had zero intentions of playing it, it wasn’t even on my radar until right before it came out. But after seeing the trailers, developers vlogs and listening to the soundtrack a bit I decided to jump in and play! This was my first tactical combat/CRPG game ever and needless to say there were some learning curves for me. But beyond that there are a few things that looking back might have been helpful to know before I started playing!
And since I’m going to be in the next week or so jumping back into play another run through I thought I’d give you my Top 3 Tips/Important things to note when playing!
#1 Play as an Origin Character
Seriously, play as one of the pre-created, in the game, has a back story characters. When I played the game initially I made my own character and it wasn’t super fun. I felt a little disconnected from the story and overall felt like I had less of a purpose to the grand scheme of things. When I restarted and played as Sebille the game became this oh-so enjoyable experience! I loved getting to see her story through her eyes! And the best part is I can play the game again as someone else and then see Sebille’s story through their eyes which adds so much replay ability to the game!
#2 This is a long game. Take your time.
I wish I knew at the start of my first play through how long this game was. I sunk in over 100 hours into my first play through and didn’t come close to finishing everything. I personally feel like I rushed certain things in the second act, missed some quests/locations because I just didn’t realize how big the game is! For my next play through I’m going to be taking my sweet ass time and enjoying it all!
#3 Use Fort Joy/ Act 1 as a Playground.
Fort Joy is the first main area of the game and it has been affectionately nicknamed “tutorial island” because well, the tutorial happens there and it’s where you learn all the things. Take the time {and enemies} that you’re given to experiment with weapons, powers, abilities, figuring out who is going to be lock picking, who is going to be in charge of lore, etc. It’s a pretty decent sized area so you’ll have plenty of time for testing things out! Which means by the time you hit Act 2 you’ll know what you like, don’t like and can level up your characters + weapons accordingly!
So those are my Top 3 important things to know when embarking on DOS2! I’ll post my mods list that I’m going to use for my next play through soon and I’ll also post my character build in case anyone is interested! I’ll be playing this next play through as Lohse and I’m still thinking about her build!!
